Claim types

The six kinds of factual statements CiteRanger extracts and verifies, with examples of what each one covers.

CiteRanger extracts factual claims, meaning statements that can be checked against a source. Six types cover most of what goes stale on a page.

TypeExamples
Statistics and numbersMarket sizes, growth rates, survey results, percentages, counts
Prices and plansProduct prices, subscription tiers, fees, cost comparisons, thresholds
Company factsEmployee counts, headquarters, leadership, ownership, acquisitions
Dates and timelinesLaunch dates, deadlines, historical events, schedules, version dates
Product detailsSpecifications, features, integrations, limits, compatibility
Legal and regulatoryRegulations, requirements, certifications, standards, allowances

What is not a claim

  • Opinions and recommendations (“the best option for small teams”)
  • General descriptions without a checkable fact
  • Predictions and forecasts
  • Statements about the page itself

These are skipped, not marked unverifiable.

Claims without a source

A claim that is original to your page, such as your own survey result or a measurement you made, has no external source to check against. It is reported as unverifiable, which in this case means “yours to vouch for”, not “wrong”. Consider adding the method or date next to it on the page so readers and AI systems can see where it comes from.
