Who is behind CiteRanger
Richard Roth
Founder & SEO Strategist
Richard Roth has worked in SEO for more than five years, first at an agency, then self-employed, on over 160 projects. His focus is content and technical SEO for e-commerce and SaaS brands.
In that work one problem kept coming back: keeping facts, statistics and sources in published articles current. Google and, increasingly, AI answer engines reward pages that are accurate today, not pages that were accurate at publication. Re-checking hundreds of articles by hand does not scale.
He builds CiteRanger and writes the guides on this site from that same practice.

Why CiteRanger exists
Every content audit for a client ended the same way: a long list of pages with numbers that were once right, sources that had moved or died, and no realistic way to keep checking them after the audit was delivered. The audit fixed a snapshot. The archive kept decaying.
The missing piece was not another crawler. Crawlers see status codes and word counts. What nobody had was a tool that reads the article the way an editor would, finds each factual claim, and checks whether it is still true and whether the cited source still says it.
CiteRanger is that tool. It grew out of client audits and became a product when the same problem showed up on every site, in every industry, regardless of how good the team was.
What it does today

Scan any published URL
Single pages, CSV lists or a whole sitemap. Pages are organized in projects, so several sites or clients live in one account.
Verify every factual claim
Statistics, prices, dates, company facts, product details and regulatory statements are extracted and checked against current sources across several AI providers.
Validate sources, not just links
Each cited source is checked for whether it still exists and whether it still supports the claim it is attached to.
Report, export, alert
A report per page with corrected values and confirming sources, exportable as PDF and CSV, plus scheduled scans with email alerts for pages that must stay current.
